Mr. McChesney, the Marcos de Niza High School Theatre teacher/director, has been teaching in the Tempe Union High School District for over 21 years now. Mr. McChesney really enjoys working with young people and truly believes that the students at Marcos de Niza are exceptionally talented performers and technicians. “It is a lot of fun to work with young, creative individuals that know how to have a good time while striving to achieve high performance standards.” Mr. McChesney earned a B.F.A in Theatre Education and an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Arizona State University. In 2015, Patrick McChesney was nominated for the inaugural “Excellence in Theatre Education” Tony Award created in conjunction with Carnegie Melon University, and made it through the second round where he was one of 40 in the United States. “The nomination was completely unexpected and it confirmed that I am where I need to be. I cannot thank the students enough for acknowledging what I do and making me feel loved.” Mr. McChesney would also like to thank the parents and adult volunteers that make our productions exceptional, from set building and costuming to volunteering at fundraisers and bringing in donations. “CDP is our parent booster group and I encourage every parent of a student enrolled in the Theatre program to get involved…. Tahlia Remer

Director of Dance &Musical Theatre Co-SponsorMA in Dance Education University of Northern Colorado. Masters thesis: Unique Considerations for Creating High School Musical Theatre Choreography
Tahlia Remer is a dance director at Marcos de Niza High School and dance major faculty advisor for the Marcos Fine Arts Academy. During her high school years Mrs. Remer trained and performed with Ballet Etudes participating in a variety of ballet classes and productions. For her secondary education Mrs. Remer attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT obtaining her Bachelors of the Arts in Dance Education. While at BYU Mrs. Remer participated in a variety of professional organizations related to dance including the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) and dance and the Child international (daCi.) Additionally she participated in the dance genres of ballet, contemporary, ballroom, and folk dance to gain a variety of experience. She performed with their dance company Kinnect, which performs and teaches at local elementary schools, for two years. This year is her fifth year directing the dance program at Marcos de Niza High School. It is also her fourth year choreographing the school musical. She is currently pursing a masters degree in Dance Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Mrs. Remer is married and has one child on the way. When she is not dancing she enjoys cooking, eating, and watching hockey.
